It's off-season in a small resort town where virginal 22 year-old Sam works nights at an empty hotel. Already completely alienated from his Bible-thumping minister father and his drug-addicted friends, he is alone and starved for companionship. Sam is further marginalized by an epileptic sleep paralysis that plagues him with terrible half-waking nightmares. However his fear of sleep makes him a perfect candidate for the graveyard shift – and his crystal meth habit keeps him awake all night anyway.

His life passes with monotonous simplicity until he becomes obsessed with a beautiful call girl. Sam attempts to form a relationship, but to his dismay he is pointedly rebuffed. Ironically, it isn’t the escort – it's her transvestite brother. Further complicating matters, Chris/Crystal is hopelessly smitten and Sam is hesitant about the relationship getting too serious – because he thinks he's straight. So this odd couple are stranded in a Midwestern town with nowhere to go but down, and no one to turn to but each other – until a random act of violence changes their lives forever.

“A Ripple in the World” is a stylish and emotionally wrenching tale with a distinctive voice and something on its mind, and heralds the arrival of an exciting new voice on the American indie film scene.
