OLIVE
OR TWIST
Peter Moody
USA 2003, 55 min.
You may not have thought about it before, but that cocktail you have in your
hand while youre reading this (you are drinking a cocktail, arent
you?) has a story behind it. Someone invented it, someone else liked it, and
the rest is history. Perhaps someday every cocktail will have a movie made
about it.
Olive or Twist is a loving and downright goofy tribute to the joy and wonder
of the martini. Its invention clouded in mystery and controversy, the martini
is, of course, the ultimate in elegance when it comes to getting drunk. Local
filmmaker and professional location scout Peter Moody (who has an early claim
to fame as the director of the video for Camper van Beethovens Take
the Skinheads Bowling back in the early 80s) approaches his weighty
subject with both reverence and silliness, sending out a self-styled private
detective on the trail of the cocktails origins as well as its master
purveyors such as the legendary Persion Aub Zam Zam
on Haight Street. Shaken or stirredthat is the question. Join
us for our Cocktail Appreciation Party at Blondie's afterwards, and
bring your ticket stub for a free martini!
