| Synopsis
Abandon all preconceptions, take a deep breath and prepare yourself for one of the strangest (and funniest) movies of the year. Love it or hate it (there’s no other reaction) this hyper-kinetic satirical black sex comedy is a wild ride. The mix of go-for-broke comedy, technical bravado, and solid plotting establishes Ishii (director of the cult hit SHARKSKIN MAN AND PEACH HIP GIRL) at the forefront of Japanese cinematic stylists. PARTY 7 is an explicit homage to David Lynch: the film weaves a physical and psychological maze of mirrors, enclosures, secrets, sex and betrayal in the creepiest lodging this side of Bates motel. The complex plot takes a bag of stolen Yakuza loot, Captain Banana’s room, seven extraordinary characters, a polar Hell-bear, and brings it to a boil. Under-lying the stunning visual design, and adding immeasurably to the film’s effect, is the densest soundscape ever created for a Japanese film. PARTY 7 stars prolific superstar-musician-model-artist Tadanobu Asano (SHARKSKIN MAN, GOHATTO), Masatoshi Nagase (MYSTERY TRAIN), and Yoshio Harada as the unforgettable Captain Banana. |
