Hronn Sveinsdottir, Arni Sveinsson
Iceland 2004, 90 min.
West Coast Premiere
Hronn Sveinsdottir smokes two packs a day, drinks "like a fish," hangs out with her pierced friends, hates exercise. So what does she do? She enters the Miss Iceland pageant. It begins as a lark, to have a look behind the scenes at a pageant, to witness the sheer ridiculousness of it all. But it becomes a mission. This girl wants to win. She trains, goes to the gym, obsesses about her weight and learns to walk that Walk. Her family, at first disdainful, are soon cheering from the sidelines. This fearless, rollicking doc, full of both surprises and fierce insight, was initially banned in Iceland.
